The Metaverse is manifesting as work and play intertwine the physical and digital. It’s our duty to ensure it’s open, secure, and in the power of the people. Build something amazing in 8 weeks, learn new skills, connect with your community, and get a chance to boost your ideas with $1M! You are invited to the opening ceremony on December 8th.

A better future requires a better foundation. Build apps capable of taking millions of users on journeys they’ve never been on before. Simple. Scalable. Secure. Write, test and deploy scalable decentralized applications in minutes on the most developer-friendly blockchain.

NEAR is here to help reimagine your world and empower users to have full control and responsibility for their data. Use languages you already know to build DeFi, Web3, Gaming, Digital Art/Collectibles, infrastructure apps, and tools, or migrate an existing EVM app to NEAR.

Join the NEAR MetaBUILD 2 Hackathon and start creating for one of the below-listed tracks.

  • The Welcome track – for those who have an app and want to integrate blockchain into it, and for the non-blockchain developers who want to get familiar with the technology.
  • The Natives track – for the developers who are already familiar with NEAR, Aurora or Octopus blockchain, or build ecosystem and tooling apps.

Get inspired by the previous NEAR MetaBUIDL (https://metabuidl.splashthat.com) winners and build something amazing!

Total Prize: $1,000,000 in NEAR

To encourage your creative process we’ve prepared a $1M USD prize fund with $75k, $50k and $25k grand prizes.

If you choose to play with the sponsor’s challenges, your app could win $20k to $30k.

And for the most outstanding teams, there is the Track Prize Fund of $600k with up to $50k individual prizes.

Hack prizes are only the beginning of support you can find in the NEAR ecosystem. MetaBUILD is a great place to meet VC (check the judge list). After the hack, you can also apply to Open Web Collective to incubate and accelerate your success.

We look for the most interesting ideas and well built projects, and here are some of the things we will be looking for:

  • Technological Implementation  – Does the interaction with NEAR demonstrate quality software development?
  • Design  – Is the user experience and design of the project well thought out?
  • Potential Impact  – Is the Project Open Source and how big of an impact could the project have on the NEAR ecosystem?
  • Quality of the Idea  – How creative and unique is the project?
  • Project Sustainability – Is the plan for the Project thought out and realistic?

How to Participate

Minimum requirements for this hackathon are a pulse, a brain, and boundless ambition. 🙂

Teams will be eagerly searching for Rust and AssemblyScript developers for smart contracts. Some will probably build their projects using modern web development skills on the frontend, backend, and everything in between.

And the best teams will almost certainly include domain experts, project managers, designers, writers, critical thinkers, and a poet or two since we’re building the future here.

To participate, please get familiar with the rules, make sure you’re eligible to enter the race, and go register! The sooner you join the MetaBUILD Devpost community, the better are your chances to find great people to join your team (https://metabuild.devpost.com/).

Throughout the 8 weeks of hacking, we will have optional weekly checkpoints and useful self-paced workshops to help you reach your milestones on time.

There will be several pitching opportunities during the Mentors’ Days. Not only will you be able to connect with the VC and industry experts, but also crash test and finetune any ideas you’ll want to test.

Happy hacking, and don’t forget to have fun!
